Edina Coalition for Grief Support

Grief has touched all of our lives. How we “handle” that grief is such a personal journey. As members of ECLC, we are blessed to be part of a supportive, caring congregation. Our community also is a supporting member of the Edina Coalition for Grief Support.

For many years, ECLC has hosted the Coalition in a rotation with other congregations. This fall, we welcome them back! Beginning October 3rd, the group will meet at ECLC every Thursday through December from 4:00-6:00 offering a short term program for adults experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one. All are welcome. The focus is on education and group support in a safe and confidential environment.

ECLC members are needed to greet attendees, make coffee, and assist with light tasks as they get settled. If you would like to assist in welcoming this group, please contact the church office.

We Welcome Felecia Boone

September 15 Sunday Forum: “Why do I stay when the behaviors after 'Sorry' don't add up?”

Felecia Boone, Vice-president of the Minneapolis Area Synod ECLC, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consultant at Hennepin County. At the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly a statement, “Declaration of the ELCA to people of African Descent,” was presented. Our guest will explore her reaction to this document from her perspective as a life-long Lutheran of African descent, share stories from her own experiences, and engage us in discussion.

Introducing (w)Holy Wednesdays!

Wholeness. That is what we pray for when we gather as Christ’s church. Wholeness is about experiencing God’s gift of grace as fully as possible. The pace of our frenzied, anxious, and divisive world rarely provides the opportunity to stop, recalibrate our lives, and be renewed.

(w)Holy Wednesdays, offered monthly beginning in September, will gather us together in order to nurture our whole, holy selves: spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical. A vibrant expression of our community life will both enliven and nurture us as we gather each month.

People of all ages are invited to gather around food, share a moment of reflection, and then move into one of several activities. Our first (w)Holy Wednesday will be September 11. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m., and will conclude at 8 p.m. The food will be provided for us by Chef Jeff Catering; (Age 0-3: free; age 4-grade 5: $6; Grade 6-Adult: $8) reserve your meal by signing up by 10:00 am Monday online here or if you don’t have internet access you can sign-up at the sign up center or call the church office by 10:00 am on Monday. (We do need to know if you are coming. If the cost is prohibitive, speak to any of the staff.)

A tentative schedule for September 11 is:

5:30 Meal

6:15 Devotions

6:30 Break outs:

  • Gentle Movement and Meditation led by Pastor Jeff

  • Psalms for Spiritual Growth led by Pastor Jay

  • Service project led by Deacon Lauren

  • Confirmation Orientation for Parents and Students

  • Sunday School Leader Orientation

  • Conversation and Coloring (for all ages!)

  • High School Homework & Games

Come for any part or for all of the evening! Child care will be provided. Bring your whole and holy selves to church on Wednesday, September 11, and also on October 9 and November 13.
